Dear LP Families,
Happy Friday! I learned today from Christine Treasure, our Director of Elementary Education that today is World Smile Day. She shared a cute video that I thought I would pass along to you below. I'm hoping it may bring a smile to your faces. It is a reminder of how a simple act of kindness can have a significant impact on our day.
Below, you will find a few upcoming community events that may be worth checking out. I also included a link to our PTA school spirit wear store. There are some great options for families and a portion of the proceeds goes directly to our PTA to help fund our school/community gatherings. We appreciate the support!
Finally, don't forget to sign up for parent/teacher conferences if you haven't done so already. Keep scrolling to find the link.
I hope you have a great weekend!
Dr. Bello

Town of Irondequoit to Host Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebrations
On October 10th, 2024, from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM, the Irondequoit Public Library will be hosting Our Voices Project to screen a showing of This is My Grandmother.
This is My Grandmother: Bev & Carol chronicles the stories of two Indigenous families, one from the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin and one from the Tuscarora Nation. These stories, told across three generations, cover growing up both on and outside of the reservation; traditions and cultural norms; and the lack of Indigenous history in classrooms. The film running time is 15 minutes. Join us for a talkback immediately following the film featuring educators, Catherine Shutt, Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, and Trish Corcoran, Tonawanda Onödowága, Bear Clan, who will share approaches to teaching Indigenous history and culture.
On Friday, October 11th, 2024, at 10:30 AM, the Town will host a ceremony culminating in the raising of the Haudenosaunee Flag in front of Town Hall. The event will begin with a Thanksgiving Address, followed by a Land Acknowledgement, remarks from Town Supervisor Andrae Evans, and an explanation of the significance of Irondequoit to the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.
