Dear LP Families,
East Irondequoit Community Schools, in collaboration with the Center for Youth, is conducting a survey to better understand the needs and assets within our district. Your feedback will help shape the direction of our community schools strategy, ensuring we provide the best support for our students and families. THIS BRIEF SURVEY IS COMPLETELY ANONYMOUS, so please share your honest thoughts and experiences: https://forms.office.com/r/KpkNNLLChS
Also, next week is a big week! We have our Book Fair starting Monday, March 3rd and running throughout the week. Our Science Fair and Art Show will take place Friday, March 7th at 7:00pm. All families are invited to check out the science projects, book fair in the library, and art show in the main hall. We have Netsin's Ice Cream truck coming to provide free ice cream to the first 300 people! This is LP's 28th year running Science Fair. It is a longstanding tradition and beloved by all; come help us celebrate!
Finally, be sure to keep scrolling to see information about our upcoming spring photos and newest fundraiser for PTA!
Enjoy the weekend!

Many of you are familiar with a communication tool we use called 'TalkingPoints'. This is a great way to stay connected to teachers, staff, and administrators. Take a look at the flyer above for more information. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
One of our goals this year is to increase engagement among our families. Before COVID, I feel there used to be many opportunities for families to volunteer during the school day and we've since lost that connection. We would love to bring that back! In that spirit, we are seeking any family volunteers to help with various projects and needs within the school. I've listed a few ideas above but that certainly isn't an inclusive list. If you are interested in learning more about potential volunteer opportunities, please reach out to me or Mr. Spadoni for more information or fill out the form below:

SUNY Brockport is offering a FREE online literacy learning opportunity (link to more information and the registration form) that seeks to strengthen and enrich the literacy lives of area students. This opportunity is for students in grades 5-12 who generally want to grow their literacy skills, functions independently in an online learning environment, and responds positively to teacher support within the mid/upper elementary to high school range. All students will receive reading and writing instruction to strengthen skills needed to be successful in school and to support college-career readiness based upon principles of effective literacy instruction.
Throughout this experience, students will work with a certified teacher who is completing her final coursework for a master's degree in literacy education. Each teacher will create engaging online literacy learning experiences in reading and writing that are appropriate for her student, strengthening and enriching the student's literacy life. Group sizes will remain very small with an optimal ratio of 1 student per teacher/collaborative teaching partnerships, allowing teachers to tailor instruction to each student's personal reading and writing needs. Each teacher will apply principles of effective literacy instruction learned throughout his/her coursework in the master’s literacy program at SUNY Brockport.
Important Details:
This starts Monday, Feb. 10 or Wednesday, Feb. 12 from 5:05-5:40 pm and ends the first week in May. Students are assigned to either the Monday or Wednesday session.
Registration closes on Friday, February 7, and notifications will be sent out by Sunday, February 9.
Weekly attendance is critical to student and graduate intern success.
Goals are co-created based on assessment data and discussions with students.
Typical sessions start with a quick welcome/SEL activity and are followed by a book talk about a popular young author text to encourage independent reading. Then the intern conducts a reading lesson linked to the student’s interests and supports skill growth tailored to the student's goals. Finally, the intern conducts a writing lesson supporting the student's writing goals for language skills and writing purpose/conventions development, again based on the student’s goals.
Students need access to a reliable computer with internet. Using an iPad is okay if it has a camera, keyboard, Google, and streaming abilities.
Virtual online work is done through the Zoom platform. Only secure links will be shared with caregivers and access is restricted to the course instructor, teacher intern(s), and student.
Please note that we have a limited number of spaces available and will only be able to take as many students as the number of graduate interns participating in this program. Students who are signed up by their parent(s) will be placed in a lottery for the available spots.
