Ivan Green Weekly Update

March 1, 2024
Women's History Month

Welcome from Mr. Hiley

Our life is March weather, save and serene in one our.

Dear Ivan Green Families:

Welcome to March! This is a wonderfully busy month at school with temperatures that represent all four seasons - we never know if it will be sunny and 70 or we will be getting 3 feet of snow. We ask that our Ivan Greeners come prepared to play outside each day, just in case we can get out there.

This week's newsletter is my first in a new e-news program. Our district has moved away from Smore and is using a product offered in our suite of mass communication tools. Please bear with me as I learn a new tool. Hopefully, it will look more customized as I learn the features. Thank you for your patience.

Next week is our Read Across America week. As a school, each classroom has a map, where they can chart their reading quite literally across America. We collect total numbers of books read throughout the week and chart the I-VAN Green van on the journey across the country. Stay tuned for our adventures!

Sincerely,
Lucas

News From Ivan Green

Health Office News

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have issued an alert in New York State about a rise in Norovirus infections. Norovirus is a virus that can infect the stomach and small intestine and cause stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and sometimes cause fever, headache and body aches. Typical disinfectants and hand sanitizers do not kill this virus, so bleach is advised to be used on surfaces. It is very important to educate your children on the importance of washing hands before and after meals, as well as after touching communal surfaces like doorknobs and shopping carts. If your student has any symptoms of Norovirus, they must be symptom free for a full 24 hours and feeling relatively well, with normal appetites, before returning to school. For any other questions, feel free to click the clink to the CDC Norovirus webpage or contact your student's pediatrician. For school specific information, feel free to reach out to the Health Office.

Peek at our Week

This week was filled with several highlights! First, we exceeded our BEAR reading goal of 4,000 books. Also, we recognized students who read over break. Names were drawn to offer a free book to some lucky students - three from each grade. Kindergartens continued their career exploration with a visit from a dental hygienist, and the fire department was here teaching lessons to kindergarten and second grade. First grades lessons will be later in the spring.
