Ivan Green Summer Update

August 23, 2024

Welcome from Mr. Hiley

Dear Ivan Green Families:

Here we are, just days away from the start of school! We look forward to opening our doors to all of our students on September 4, 2024. We are happy to be the home of three self-contained classrooms at our school, providing a very special place in our community for our littlest and most special Lancers. We are proud to build a school community that truly models inclusivity and community, regardless of the way or speed in which one learns.

As we say at the end of the Pledge of Allegiance each day: I belong. You belong. We belong.

Here are a couple of first-day reminders:

  1. All grown-ups will need to say goodbye at the doors on the first day of school. We like to establish the routine from the very start, so thank you for staying outside. We will have all hands on deck inside to make sure every student gets to his/her classroom until everyone can do it independently.

  2. Your transportation information is generally correct in terms of pick-up and drop-off times. That all goes out the window the first week or so of school. After the first couple of dismissals, we will send a Talking Points message to let you know when all buses have left the loop so you can adjust your arrival expectations from there.

On behalf of myself and our entire staff, we are so ready to welcome you all to Ivan Green for a terrific year. Enjoy these last two weekends of summer, and we will see you at 9AM on September 4 - but maybe sooner if you are coming to our Popsicles event on the playground on September 3 at 2:00. We will also have Popsicles available for our UPK friends at their orientation. Either way, we will see you next week!

Sincerely,

Lucas Hiley, Ed.D
Principal

Upcoming Events

September 3 - Popsicles with the Principal at 2:00 (until 3:00)
September 4 - First Day of School for all students.

News From Ivan Green

Ivan Green School Day

The Ivan Green school day is from 9:00 to 3:30.

Students cannot be dropped off early - no earlier than 9:00. There will be NO supervision until 9AM.

No pick-ups will take place between 2:45 and 3:20. This allows our office staff to keep accurate records. This means that if you have to get your child early, then the pick-up needs to happen prior to 2:45.

Students are welcome to get breakfast on their way into school.

All students will have a 45-minute special each day. We rotate through a six-day cycle. Each six days will provide three physical education classes, a music class, an art class, and a library class with book selection.

Students will eat and have recess in a 40-minute block. Lunch and recess are supervised by monitors. Each class is assigned one monitor, the same one each day.

Morning Arrival - by Bus

Most students arrive by bus. This link will show students how to enter the school int he morning if they arrive by bus.

Health Office News & Medication Drop-Off

Nurse Izzo Personal News: Nurse Izzo will be out of school for the first few weeks, as she is having breast cancer surgery on August 28. She is sharing her story as a reminder to women to trust your instincts, seek medical attention when you think something is off, and to advocate for your health always. She is eager to get this behind her and has left the health office in tip-top shape in anticipation of a substitute nurse taking the reigns for a bit.

Medication Drop-Off: Our substitute nurse (Hae-Jeon Hutchison) will be on site during our Popsicles with the Principal event on September 3 to collect any medications you need to drop off for your child to take at school. Please call her with any medication questions. 339-1314 If that time does not work for you, we can arrange a better time.

Peek at our SUMMER

We have balanced fun with work this summer!

The first picture is of Miss Binnert, Miss McElligott, Mr. Hiley, Miss Robson, and Miss Holmes at AVID Summer Institute in Baltimore, MD.

The Hiley family snuck away to San Francisco this summer AND also attended a family wedding in the Finger Lakes. And, Mrs. Collins and her husband dropped their youngest son Kyle off to start his adventure at Cortland State.
