Dear Ivan Green Families:

Our Lancers had a great start to the year!

Since this is our first official e-news of the school year, I want to briefly introduce myself to all of our new (and returning) IG families. I am the proud principal of Ivan Green Primary School. We are a beautiful school filled with the most talented, dedicated educators.

This is the start of my fifth year at Ivan Green as the principal. I love working with your students and getting to know and make connections with families. I find this work rewarding and feel it is a great honor to be part of your child's journey.

When I am not at Ivan Green, I like to tinker around my yard. I make every effort to keep my grass green and my pool water clear. My children (Micah and Eve) are active in sports, so my wife (Lisa) and I watch a LOT of baseball and lacrosse. If I am home and inside, I am probably cooking something!

We are looking for a family volunteer to join our site-based committee. This is a group of teachers who set goals for various areas of the school. We are particularly focused on furthering our AVID work. If you are interested and can join a monthly meeting, we would love to have you!

September is Attendance Awareness Month #LancersShowUp

Filling out your CEP Form

As you know, we are working to get a complete and accurate picture of some key financial demographics for our district. There are several critical implications to us having this information, so thank you to everyone for completing the CEP form. If you have not done it yet, we will provide one at the Popsicles with the Principals for you to complete. Our goal is to have 100% of our families complete a form. A CEP form was in the middle of the EICSD calendar that was mailed to your home this summer.

Some of us have struggled to interpret the instructions, as they are bit misleading. Here is some clarification: You DO NOT need to disclose your income if it is higher than the amounts listed in the Free and Reduced-Price Meal guidelines for your household. Your student(s) will still qualify for free school supplies and services, once you complete the form, no matter your income level.

Being in the PTA will require me to volunteer at every event and attend meetings" MYTH!

It was wonderful seeing so many families at Popsicles with the Principal! I just want to promote becoming a PTA member and hopefully clear up any confusion. I heard several people share they didn’t want to be a member because they just don’t have the time. And while I certainly understand feeling super busy and overwhelmed this time of year I just want to clear up that becoming a “member” DOES NOT mean you have to attend all the meetings or volunteer for anything if you are not able. What it does mean is you are supporting our students with your $5 donation. You can be involved as much or as little as you want or are able to. We are here to make connections and promote and better our Ivan Green community.

Several families turned in their PTA membership slip, however, you are not technically a member until you have paid your $5, either in cash or online through ivangreenpta.giveback.com. Please send cash in with a name so we know who it belongs to.
