Ivan Green Weekly Update

November 8, 2024

Welcome from Mr. Hiley

Dear Ivan Green Families:

We fit a lot of fun and learning into this week! We had one indoor recess day due to rain, which makes me think of the winter days ahead. If it ever gets cold (and we get snow), our students will continue to play outside each day as long as the temperature (and windchill) are above 20 degrees. We know that children do not get sick from being in the cold. In fact, they can stay healthier by getting regular fresh air and exercise, which is why we stay committed to daily outdoor play. Please plan to send in appropriate attire for outdoor play in all weather condition (except the rain!).

As a reminder, we are closed on Monday in observance of Veterans Day. Many classes spent time learning about Veterans Day, honoring Veterans, and some even met some Veterans from all branches of the military. We proudly salute our Veterans in recognition for their sacrifice and service to our country. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Lucas Hiley, Ed.D.

News From Ivan Green

Health Office News

Physicals

Pediatrician’s offices are known for sending faxes days or even weeks after requests are made by parents. If you have requested a fax to be sent and are still receiving notifications that the health office has not received it, please request a copy be sent to you via portal or mail. The Health Appraisal form can then be sent to my email, cizzo@eastiron.org , sent via Talking Points, or dropped off in person. It is also helpful to request a paper copy during their yearly visit. It is the responsibility of the parent to submit the mandated paperwork. Physicals are mandated yearly per NYS law for UPK, Kindergarten, and 1st grade. If a physical has not been provided, we will have a district physician on-campus on December 9th. Copies of those physicals will be sent home the same day.

Vision and Hearing Screenings

Vision and Hearing screenings will begin in December! 😊 Screenings are provided for children that do not have a current screening in the last 6 months. If any abnormal results occur, I will send home a referral form that can be taken to an audiologist or ophthalmologist.

Antibiotics

Ivan Green has a policy that states a student must be on antibiotics for a full 24 hours from first dose before returning. Please make sure that your child is also feeling well before sending them back to school.

Out of the Office

There will be a substitute in the office November 19th- November 22nd. I should be back December 2nd!

Community Schools Connection: Join the FACE Team

Community Schools is forming a Family And Community Engagement (FACE) Team, and we need your help! We’re inviting all members of the Ivan Green School community to join us in developing a Needs and Assets Assessment. This will help us identify our strengths and areas for improvement, shaping our next steps as a Community School.

Your experiences and insights are incredibly valuable. This process won’t add extra work to your plates—just your time and participation. We’ll meet twice a month to draft and finalize the assessment, then collect and analyze the data.

An informational meeting will be scheduled soon to explain our goals and answer any questions. I hope to reach out to everyone after November 1st to schedule our first FACE Team meeting.

Thank you to those who have already volunteered.

Let’s work together to support our community’s needs and enhance our strengths!

Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or if you’d like to learn more!
