Ivan Green Weekly Update

March 8, 2024
Women's History Month

Welcome from Mr. Hiley

Dear Ivan Green Families:

Over the next few weeks our teachers will be working on report cards for the second trimester. This is always an exciting time of the year. Just as the trees and flowers start the bloom, we are growing little readers and writers here at Ivan Green. In the spring of the year, the proverbial lightbulb goes off for so many students when they unlock the code to reading. Spring report card time is an exciting benchmark because there is often so much growth to celebrate.

Report cards will be distributed before spring break, but our half day of school for parent teacher conferences is not until April 19. You will hear from your child's classroom teacher if she or she is hoping for a spring conference. You can also initiate a conference, if you would like to check in.

In terms of spring break, please notice that we have two extra days off this year. There is the five day consecutive stretch (April 1-5) but we are also off Friday, March 29 for Good Friday AND Monday, April 8 for the solar eclipse. Districts around the county have the day off due to the anticipated heavy traffic at the exact time of school dismissals.

The District has secured solar eclipse glasses for all students. We will be dispersing them prior to break. We will have some coordinating learning experiences as well.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Lucas Hiley, Ed.D.
Principal

Thank you to those of you who are following safe practices at our morning drop off. It is important that adults remain in their cars and let students walk wiht the escort/supervisors on staff. Getting out of your cars is disruptive to the flow of traffic and creating some safety hazards. Please share this message with grandparents/babysitters.

Peek at our Week

This week was filled with several highlights! First, we exceeded our BEAR reading goal of 4,000 books. Also, we recognized students who read over break. Names were drawn to offer a free book to some lucky students - three from each grade. Kindergartens continued their career exploration with a visit from a dental hygienist, and the fire department was here teaching lessons to kindergarten and second grade. First grades lessons will be later in the spring.
