Ivan Green Weekly Update

March 28, 2024
Women's History Month

Welcome from Mr. Hiley

Dear Ivan Green Families:

We are still in need of some people to volunteer to lead our PTA next year. It's fun, we promise! We are looking for a president (or co-presidents), a corresponding secretary, and a recording secretary. Please let me know if you have questions about the commitment. It is totally manageable and a great way to meet other parents and staff.

As you know, our students had a cool experience with Mrs. Bohrer this last week in library, as they learned about the upcoming eclipse. We were featured in two news articles - you can see them by clicking below.

The newsletter ends today with some pictures from the library and some eclipse family resources.

Special Area News - Library

During our last cycle, the students in the library learned about the upcoming Total Solar Eclipse which will take place on Monday April 8th. Students listened to the book A Few Beautiful Minutes: Experiencing a Solar Eclipse by Kate Allen Fox and visited stations to explore the stages of the solar eclipse, the corona and UV rays. With the help of parent volunteers, students created models of the solar eclipse, flip books, solar shelters, and chalk art. At the end of each class, students received eclipse viewing glasses that were provided by the district. Here are some pictures of students learning together in their stations.

We hope your family enjoys the Solar Eclipse which you should be able to view from your homes as Irondequoit is in the path of totality. Throughout Rochester, there are several events taken place leading up to or on the day of the eclipse.
