Ivan Green Weekly Update

March 15, 2024
Women's History Month

Welcome from Mr. Hiley

Dear Ivan Green Families:

Please remember that birthday celebrations at Ivan Green are food-free. This policy is for the safety and equity of all students. We much appreciate your involvement and invite you to read a book or come into class to play a game. If you bring food, we will turn you away unfortunately.

Now, on to more exciting things...

As you know, we do not have school on Monday, April 8 due to the high volume of traffic expected in Rochester at the time of the solar eclipse. Mrs. Bohrer, our librarian has crafted some unique learning experiences to prepare Ivan Green students for the unique opportunity we can all observe. If you want to part of this exciting experience here at school, keep reading!

Ivan Green Needs Your Help! During library classes, kindergarten, first, and second graders will be visiting 4 creation stations to explore concepts of this once in a lifetime total eclipse. Mrs. Bohrer, our librarian is looking for 4 family volunteers per class to assist with these stations. Please use the Signup Genius link below to find your child's class and sign up. This will be an exciting time at our school as we prepare for this amazing moment in time.

News From Ivan Green

Morning Drop Off

Thank you to those of you who are following safe practices at our morning drop off. It is important that adults remain in their cars and let students walk wiht the escort/supervisors on staff. Getting out of your cars is disruptive to the flow of traffic and creating some safety hazards. Please share this message with grandparents/babysitters.

From the Health Office

As the weather begins to change from cold and snowy to warm and sunny, students will be spending more time outdoors. Please be sure to send sneakers in with your student. For safety, students should not wear sandals or open-toed shoes on the playground. It Is also a good time to switch out clothes in classrooms for cooler outfits. As mornings are cool and afternoons warm up, send your student to school in layers so that they do not overheat. This trapped heat can mimic a fever.

Missing physical letters are being sent home, so please check your student’s folder for a yellow or orange letter from me. As a reminder, physicals are due yearly for UPK, Kindergarten and 1st grade. Second grade families should start scheduling their 2024 physicals as well, since the next mandated physical year is grade 3. These physicals cannot be a visit summary, MyChart/MyCare summary, or daycare form. These must be on the New York State Health Appraisal Form. If your provider has said they will fax this, please touch base with the health office, as sometimes faxes disappear into the interwebs and never make it to my inbox.

My direct fax number is 585-339-1328 and my email address is cizzo@eastiron.org. If you have any questions, my direct office number is 339-1314. As a general reminder, I do not respond to Talking Points sent after 4pm and will not see any new messages sent until 8am the following morning. Any messages sent over a weekend will be responded to Monday mornings. Thank you!

Peek at our Week

This week was filled with several highlights! First, we exceeded our BEAR reading goal of 4,000 books. Also, we recognized students who read over break. Names were drawn to offer a free book to some lucky students - three from each grade. Kindergartens continued their career exploration with a visit from a dental hygienist, and the fire department was here teaching lessons to kindergarten and second grade. First grades lessons will be later in the spring.
