Ivan Green Weekly Update

June 14, 2024

Welcome from Mr. Hiley

Dear IG Families:

Thank you to those of you who reached out regarding Mrs. Collins and her surgery. We are happy to report that her surgery went well, and she is already home. She is in good spirits and truly grateful for all the support from her Ivan Green family.

Next week is predicted to be a scorcher. We encourage our Ivan Greeners to come to school dressed in summer attire. Washcloths for wetting and cooling are recommended, and of course lots of water. If you have a medical concern, please direct that to our school nurse. As you know, most of our building is not air conditioned. We have developed a plan to provide everyone access to cooler spaces. On the hottest days, we will limit physical activity by holding recess inside and adjusting our plans for phys. ed. classes.

As a reminder, schools are closed Wednesday, June 19 for Juneteenth. The last day of school is Monday, June 24 (our schoolwide Fun Day)

Sincerely,
Lucas Hiley, Ed.D.
Principal

News From Ivan Green

Medication Pick-Up from Health Office

Medication pickup this year will be on June 25th and June 26th due to the last day of school being a Monday and Fun Day! I will send out reminders the week prior. If medication isn’t picked up by end of day on June 26th, it will be disposed of per New York State Safe Medication Disposal in Schools procedures. June is also a great month to contact providers for new medication orders, as they are good for 1 year and you will avoid the August/September rush, where paperwork tends to get lost

Peek at our Week

This was a super week filled with wonderful activities. Check our Instagram or Facebook for pictures of our kindergarten moving up ceremonies and our second graders' trip to the YMCA.

Special Area News

We kicked off today's Flag Day Ceremony with a processional of students to the flagpole, where they got to pass by our selected flag bearers from each class. Clara Kneezel from EIMS performed our Call to Colors to start the ceremony. The boys and girls scouts let the Pledge of Allegiance. Mrs. Bohrer's son, Charlie, sang the National Anthem followed by an address from our superintendent, Mary Grow. We sang You're a Grand Old Flag, Mr. Hiley addressed everyone, and there were a few awards to close the ceremony. We ended with singing the Ivan Green Song. Thank you to Miss Adams for organizing such a wonderful celebration. And, thank you to all the family members who attended.
