Dear IG Families:
The first phase of our student placement process for next school year begins this month with the collection of input from parents/guardians. I invite you to provide me with written input regarding your child as an individual learner and related classroom factors that impact your child’s learning. Some factors you may provide input about include the following:
Individual student factors: learning styles, academic support needs, behavior management needs, and social/emotional needs.
Classroom factors: instructional group, compatible peer relations, balance between leaders and followers, boys and girls, and overall class make-up.
Other factors pertinent to your child: counseling, AIS, speech therapy, and special education needs.
The information you provide is used to inform our student placement process for next year’s classes. We apply the information to the best of our ability, but no guarantees can be made. The information that parents provide is confidential and reviewed only by me. Parent input is just the first phase of an extensive placement process. The bullets below outline the general placement process that is used at Laurelton-Pardee.
April and May
Parents send written input (letter or email) to Mr. Hiley by May 12, 2024. Please do not request specific teachers. We are unable to consider such requests
April and May: The IG teaching staff documents the academic, social, and emotional needs for each of their students. Teachers share this information with me.
June
Tentative student classroom assignments are developed by the this year's teachers in collaboration with me. These assignments are made after extensively reviewing parent feedback, classroom teacher input, student learning information, and collaboration with special area teachers and service providers.
July
Revisions to student placement assignments are made by me based on further reviews of information.
Mid-August
Classroom assignments are finalized, and placement letters are mailed.
I believe that all of our teachers have the ability and desire to provide your child with appropriate educational opportunities. If you have questions or concerns, please phone the main office at 339-1310 or email me at lhiley@eastiron.org.
Sincerely,
Lucas Hiley, Ed.D.
