Drop Off and Pick Up Concerns
When picking up PreK students at the end of the day, please remember you must turn left out of the parking lot onto Westchester Ave. We have many cars turning right and passing buses with lights on, that are loading students. The new county bus patrol cameras can now take pictures of cars passing busses and issue citations. Please make sure you are turning left so you do not receive a citation. They can be avoided!
Also, please note that when the small parking lot by the playground is full, you may not create spots next to the sidewalk and on the grass. It blocks our small bus from dropping off students. Please follow the line of cars on Westchester to pull into the drop off zone, or park on a side street if you would like to walk your child to the front door! Thank you for helping us keep all students safe!
A Look Into Our Learning
UPK: UPK spent the week learning about bugs! We talked about parts of an insect. We practiced number identification, counting, and story problems. Students completed directed bug drawings and play doh bugs. Students also started working in their May journals.
Kindergarten: This week our kindergarten classrooms started to learn about life cycles by incubating our very own chick eggs! Chick eggs take 21 days to hatch. We are taking good care of our eggs and counting down together as we learn. We are learning about writing memories and sharing stories of the past. We are practicing safety drills this week. In math we are starting a new unit on teen numbers and seeing them as one group of ten and more. You can reinforce these skills at home by playing math games or organizing and counting small sets of objects as a group of ten and more. For example, a small handful of pasta with 19 pieces would be one group of 10 and 9 more. Have fun with it!
First Grade: This week, first grade got a visit from the Irondequoit Fire Department. Students went on the safety trailer, where they learned what to do in case there was a fire in their house. Students experienced a simulation with fake smoke and were able to act out different scenarios while on the safety trailer.
Second: This week in second grade, we completed our math unit on adding and subtracting three-digit numbers and using these skills to solve word problems. Way to go mathematicians! In ELA, students continued to have fun exploring the digestive system. What an exciting week with the students singing their hearts out at our second-grade concert, “Wonders of the Earth”! Thank you to Mr. Haller, second grade teachers, supporting teachers/staff, and our amazing second grade singers!
COVID 19 Updates
The CDC and NYDOH has issued new guidance related to isolation after testing positive for COVID 19. Individuals can go back to normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both of the following are true: Symptoms are getting better overall, and they no longer have a fever without the use of fever-reducing medication. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Note From Ms. Zaffuto
Cold and flu season is upon us. Please read the message from Nurse Zaffuto to know when to keep your child home.
Please make sure to call your pediatrician to schedule a yearly physical if you have not done so already.
New York requires all school age children to be up to date on immunizations. Students have 14 days from the first day of school to have immunizations completed. All children who will turn 5 years of age during the school year will also need to follow these guidelines and have 14 days, starting on their 5th birthday, to have updated immunizations completed.
Please see the attached link and flyer for more information.
If your child needs to have emergency or daily medication here at school, contact the health office for further information. Please do not send any medication in with your child, a responsible adult needs to be present for all medication drop-offs/pick-ups.
