3rd Grade ELA and Math

ELA: Students are continuing to read and write about the sea as they investigate why people explore this area of our world. Check out the parent resource for details on learning activities and ways to support at home. 

Math: Students will learn strategies for breaking apart a more difficult multiplication fact into known facts and will begin to extend their knowledge of multiplication to think about how multiplication and division are related.  Check out the parent resources for more information and ways to support at home: Breaking apart multiplication facts, using multiplication to divide  

4th Grade ELA and Math

ELA: Students will continue to read, write, and respond as they explore what it means to have a great heart (both literally and figuratively). Check out this parent resource for details on learning activities and ways to support at home. 

Math – Students will extend their knowledge of multiplication by developing an understanding of multiplying multi-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers.  Students will then extend that knowledge to include multiplying multi-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers.  Check out the parent resources for more information and ways to support at home. multiplying by 1-digit numbers , multiplying by 2-digit numbers 

5th Grade ELA and Math

ELA - Students will continue to read, write, and respond, as they investigate cultures in conflict and consider the ways in which cultural beliefs and values guide people. This parent resource provides more information about the texts used within the unit, as well as an overview of learning activities. 

Math – Students will wrap up their unit on multiplying whole numbers and decimals and will shift their focus to dividing with whole numbers and decimals.  To develop a conceptual understanding of these concepts, students will have practice creating and interpreting various models.  Please see these parent resources for more information and ways to support at home: multiplying decimals, dividing whole numbers , dividing decimals 

Social Emotional Learning

We are looking forward to focusing on Gratitude this month! One way to think about Gratitude is “choosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives.” Practicing Gratitude can increase our well-being and our happiness. Gratitude is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Well. Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like emotion regulation, positive self-talk, and stress management.

Content Corner

3rd grade: This month students will begin a unit on invisible forces, where they consider whether (and how) scientists can predict how an object will move.

4th grade: Students will engage in a short unit about Native Americans and the environment and will then shift to science to learn about various forms of energy. 

5th grade: This month students will wrap up their investigation of ancient civilizations and will then shift to science, with a focus on different states of matter through the lens of toys.
