ELA: 3rd grade students begin a new module called, "Outer Space," where they will study how people have learned about space through history. Math: Students will continue their unit on strategies for breaking apart a more difficult multiplication fact into known facts and will begin to extend their knowledge of multiplication to think about how multiplication and division are related. ELA: 4th grade students begin a new module, called, "The Redcoats are Coming." In this module, they will use a critical eye to see how the American Revolution was a foundation for American history by focusing on identifying and understanding perspective and its impact on our understanding of events and decisions people make. Students will improve their critical-thinking skills as both readers and writers. They will ask the question: Why is it important to understand all sides of a story? Math – 4th grade students will wrap up their unit on multiplication and then will launch into a division unit, where they will learn strategies for dividing up to 4-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. ELA - 5th grade students will begin their 2nd module, called "Word Play." In Module 2, they will study the way we use words to define and organize our world. This month’s focus is Empathy. One way to think about Empathy is “understanding and connecting with other people’s feelings.” Empathy is a practice that can help us grow strong relationships. Empathy is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Kind. Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership.
