Hello March graphic

Dear DE Families

We are thrilled to welcome spring!   As we embark on the 2nd half of the school year together, we want to emphasize the importance of seeing every child as a student and a learner. Each day at school is an opportunity for growth, discovery, and achievement.

The Role of Students and Learners

At this stage, your children are developing critical thinking skills, exploring new subjects, and building a foundation for lifelong learning, including effective social skills.  Encouraging them to see themselves as students and learners helps foster a positive attitude towards education. It empowers them to take ownership of their learning, ask questions, and strive for excellence.

The Importance of Attendance

Regular attendance is crucial for academic success. When students attend school consistently, they benefit from:

  • Continuous Learning: Each lesson builds on the previous one, and regular attendance ensures they don't miss out on important concepts.

  • Social Development: Being present allows them to form friendships, work in teams, and develop social skills.

  • Building Habits: Consistent attendance helps establish routines and a sense of responsibility.

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and there may be times when absences are unavoidable. However, we encourage you to prioritize school attendance whenever possible. Your support in this area is invaluable and greatly appreciated.

Tips for Parents

To help your child succeed, here are some practical tips:

  1. Establish a Routine: Set a consistent bedtime and morning routine to ensure your child gets enough rest and is ready for school each day.

  2. Create a Study Space: Designate a quiet, well-lit area for homework and study time, free from distractions.

  3. Stay Involved: Regularly check in with your child's teacher and stay informed about their progress and any areas where they might need extra support.

  4. Encourage Reading: Foster a love for reading by providing books that interest your child and setting aside time for reading each day.

  5. Promote Healthy Habits: Ensure your child eats a balanced diet, gets regular exercise, and practices good hygiene.

  6. Talk About School: Show interest in your child's school day by asking about what they learned and encouraging them to share their experiences.

  7. Set Goals: Help your child set achievable academic and personal goals, and celebrate their successes, no matter how small.

Partnering for Success

We believe that a strong partnership between home and school is key to your child's success. We are here to support you and your child every step of the way. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Thank you for being a part of our school community. Together, we can make this a fantastic end of the year for learning and growth for all our students.

#SELday image

Exciting News! Global SEL Day is March 3, 2025!

The week of March 3rd (#SELday), our school will focus on five important social and emotional skills:

1.      Self-Awareness: Knowing your own feelings, thoughts, and values.

  1. Self-Management: Handling stress, controlling impulses, and staying motivated.

  2. Social Awareness: Understanding and caring about others' feelings.

  3. Relationship Skills: Making and keeping healthy relationships.

  4. Responsible Decision-Making: Making good choices about your behavior.

To help our students remember to use the skills we practice at school, we will give them Stronger Connection fidget bracelets and calm-breathing strips.

How Parents Can Help at Home

We encourage parents to join us in celebrating #SELday and help their children use these skills at home:

  1. Self-Awareness: Talk with your child about their feelings and thoughts. Create a safe space where they can express themselves. Share your own feelings too and how you handle them.

  2. Self-Management: Help your child set up routines that include time to relax and manage stress. Teach them ways to calm down, like deep breathing, mindfulness, or writing in a journal. Setting goals and celebrating small wins can also improve their self-management skills.

  3. Social Awareness: Encourage your child to think about how other people feel. Read books or watch movies together that show different experiences and talk about these scenarios. This can help them understand and empathize with others.

  4. Relationship Skills: Practice good communication at home. Encourage your child to solve conflicts peacefully. Do family activities together.

  5. Responsible Decision-Making: Involve your child in family decisions to help them think about the consequences of their actions. Give them chances to make age-appropriate decisions, which can build their confidence and sense of responsibility.

By adding these practices to your daily routines, you can help your child grow emotionally, which can help lead to their success in school and life.

Thank you for your continued support!
